Where can I go?

Hampshire has some beautiful countryside, much of which provides access to the public - please see the 'Where can I walk?' page on this site for a summary of places and routes which are available.

However, as a disabled person you may find that you are not able to access all of these venues. The Forum recognises that every disabled person is an individual, each with varying degrees of ability. Our remit is to provide strategic advice to the county council and others on improving accessibility for all users. Much has been and is being done to improve access to sites and some rights of way, and information is available to help you assess whether facilities are suitable for you.

The County Council has published a guide to thirty of the sites that they manage which provide facilities for visitors with reduced mobility. This can be obtained by contacting the information centre by e-mail info.centres@hants.gov.uk or tel 0800 028 0888 or textphone 0808 100 2484 and asking for a copy of 'Accessible Countryside in Hampshire'. The 'Explore More of Hampshire' webpage also gives links to these sites on its 'accessible countryside' page. The Countryside Service web-pages give details of facilities and access at all sites.

Hampshire County Council also produces a 'Guided Walks' booklet which typically details more than 100 walks over the coming months, some of which are marked as suitable for people with limited walking ability. The booklet is available for a small charge through the County Council's information centres and Tourist Information Centres.

If you have an interest in improving access to a particular countryside site or right of way, you may wish to get in touch with the manager of that area/route through your local access group or direct.
