Motor VehiclesMotor vehicles may drive on certain routes in the countryside, often without a tarmacced surface and so referred to as 'green lanes'. When motorcycles and cars were first invented, they would have had to use routes with unsealed surfaces and some of these did not subsequently become tarmacced roads. As a result, there are green lanes all over Britain - some are historical transit routes, others might have just been lanes to the mill or the pub. Many are very old and evidence of their use as public carriageways can be found in historical documents. This section contains details of where you can ride motorcycles or drive vehicles in the countryside, the laws and codes of practice which relate to these activities and links to local vehicle clubs and societies - please browse among the choices to the left. |
