Where can I walk my dog?Unlike horses or cycles, dogs are allowed to go wherever you are allowed to walk. Therefore, you can take your dog with you on all Rights of Way (footpaths, bridleways, byways and RUPPs) as long as it is under control. A Map of Rights of Way in Hampshire shows all paths where you have a legal right to walk; this is updated daily but is not guaranteed to reflect the official legal position. A copy of the legal Definitive Map may be consulted at the County Council's Rights of Way office in Mottisfont Court, Winchester - please contact us if you would like to visit. Please also see the 'Where can I walk?' page listed to the left, which signposts many other places to walk in the countryside, most of which allow dogs (follow the links to find out for sure). On sites managed by Hampshire County Council's Countryside service, your dog can generally be allowed to run free, provided you keep it under close control. The Explore More of Hampshire site gives ideas for days out on foot, bicycle and horseback for for each area of Hampshire. Please respect any signs and remember to clear up after your dog in public places such as picnic areas or car parks. It pays to carry some plastic bags for use in an emergency, and please use bins if they are provided. If you walk on farmland, please ensure your dog is wormed and healthy, to prevent contamination of water and livestock. |
